Daughn Gibson 'The Burgundy Daughns' LP

Daughn Gibson released his debut 'All Hell' to unexpected success, a modern cult classic. Following two full-lengths with Sub Pop Records, Daughn returns to White Denim for 'The Burgundy Daughns', an exclusive twelve-song collection of material unavailable anywhere else. Daughn had previously self-released these songs digitally, but only for a few months' time before removing them. Like everything else that has happened in his idiosyncratic musical career, it was done that way because that's precisely the way he wanted to do it. The material on 'The Burgundy Daughns' is his finest to date, a ruptured form of timeless pop music, recalling the likes of Scott Walker, Alan Vega, George Jones, Bryan Ferry, James Chance and Tom Waits. For as much as his music hearkens back to previous golden eras of big-budget popular rock n' roll, the way in which he crafts his sonic ideas still feels far ahead of the curve. If he continues to make music, I am certain he will someday top 'The Burgundy Daughns', but as it stands today, this is his swan song.
